Australian oil and gas producer Woodside Energy has announced a strategic partnership with Japan Suiso Energy (JSE) and Kansai Electric Power Co (KEPCO) to establish a liquid H₂ supply chain between Australia and Japan.

The three companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to transport liquid H₂ produced at Woodside’s planned H2Perth project in Western Australia. The H₂ will be shipped via specialized liquid H₂ carriers to dedicated receiving terminals in Japan, creating a vital clean energy link between the two nations.

Woodside originally committed more than $659.7 MM in 2021 to develop the H2Perth facility, a carbon-neutral, commercial-scale H₂ hub. Once operational, the project is expected to initially produce up to 100 tpd of liquid H₂, utilizing natural gas as a feedstock while pursuing decarbonization strategies.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward advancing H₂ as a sustainable energy solution in the Asia-Pacific region, strengthening Australia–Japan energy ties and supporting both countries’ carbon neutrality goals.
