Botnia Hydrogen AB has received a decision regarding the disbursement of about $1.1-MM

Metacon’s majority-owned subsidiary Botnia Hydrogen AB has received a decision regarding the disbursement of the remaining approximately $1.1 MM from Klimatklivet. The decision follows an approved final report for the project to construct two production-integrated hydrogen refueling stations, which was granted climate investment support on December 2, 2021, and enables immediate payment to Metacon for outstanding receivables in the project of the corresponding amount.

As recently announced, Metacon is the majority owner of Botnia Hydrogen AB (Botnia), a company that builds and operates production units and refueling stations for green hydrogen in northern Sweden. Botnia owns two of the currently limited number of electrolyzers in Sweden producing fossil-free hydrogen for the transport sector.

Metacon’s strategic involvement in Botnia is aimed at active participation in the growing hydrogen-based transport sector in Sweden, primarily focusing on heavy commercial road transport. At the same time, one of the facilities also enables refueling of passenger cars and lighter commercial hydrogen vehicles such as pickup trucks, often closely linked to heavier transport operations, for example within the forestry industry. Metacon’s specific involvement in individual facilities is not intended for long-term operation, but rather for establishment, value creation, and a potential future divestment of existing refueling station assets and operations to more specialized operators.

“We are pleased and grateful for Klimatklivet’s important contribution to enabling a long-term sustainable and environmentally friendly hydrogen-based transport sector, which also significantly strengthens national self-sufficiency and resilience,” commented Christer Wikner, President and CEO of Metacon.
