The Wilhelmshaven hydrogen import terminal will enable the import of hydrogen via ammonia. Once the ammonia has been unloaded, it will be cracked onsite in a large-scale ammonia cracker and the hydrogen fed into the German core hydrogen network. In addition, suitable rail loading facilities are available for the safe and efficient transport of ammonia by rail. With an annual import capacity of up to 2.6 million tons of ammonia, corresponding to around 350,000 tons of hydrogen, the project is a key element of Germany’s future hydrogen infrastructure.
The Open Season consists of two consecutive phases. In the first phase, interested market participants are invited to submit an Expression of Interest to indicate their desired capacity and pay a participation fee. In the following allocation process, the capacity reservation will be confirmed. In the second phase, Heads of Terms will be issued as basis for the Terminal Use Agreement which will be developed with the participating shippers. The process concludes with the signing of the Terminal Use Agreement, resulting in a binding capacity booking.
