Japan industry giants sign "1% Hydrogen Procurement Declaration"

  • JH2A member companies participate in the Hydrogen Highway Concept Realization Conference hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry

The Japan Hydrogen Value Chain Promotion Association (JH2A) announced the participating members and main initiatives of the "1% Hydrogen Procurement Declaration" at its 7th General Meeting. In addition, member companies, including the JH2A Chairman and Directors, participated in the "Hydrogen Main Artery Concept Realization Conference" hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which was held after the General Meeting.

In its policy proposal "Aiming for the Social Implementation of Hydrogen and the Sustainable Growth of Japan's Hydrogen Industry," which was handed to Prime Minister Takaichi on May 28, JH2A positions hydrogen as an important field that contributes to strengthening energy security, enhancing industrial competitiveness and economic security, and decarbonization and GX, and calls for clarification of its position in the growth strategy and support for demand creation.

Based on these policy recommendations, JH2A is promoting the "1% Hydrogen Procurement Declaration" as an initiative to expand hydrogen demand. This declaration states that JH2A members will utilize hydrogen for 1% of their procurement in three categories: transportation, fuel and raw materials. It will be implemented as part of a hydrogen-related procurement expansion campaign undertaken by JH2A members, including universities and local governments. In the future, we will expand the specific initiatives of participating members and, while utilizing the related logo, will also communicate these initiatives externally to foster momentum for creating hydrogen demand.

Furthermore, at the "Hydrogen Artery Concept Realization Conference" hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, held after the general meeting of members with the participation of the JH2A Chairman, Directors, and member companies, opening remarks were given by Yoshifumi Murase, Director-General of the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, followed by an explanation of the purpose of establishment and immediate action plans by Yamato Kobayashi, Director-General of the Energy Conservation and New Energy Department of the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy.

This was followed by statements of commitment from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Ministry of the Environment, Koji Sato, Co-Chairman of JH2A (Vice Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation), the Clean Fuel Ammonia Association, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Kyushu University, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. At this conference, stakeholders shared a common direction toward the concretization of efforts to promote the supply, transportation, and utilization of hydrogen in an integrated manner.

Going forward, JH2A will continue to contribute to the social implementation of hydrogen and the sustainable growth of Japan's hydrogen industry by advancing both the direction outlined in its policy recommendations and the concrete demand creation efforts by its members.
